Draft for review before launch. Details in [brackets] still need filling in.

Couch is for the two of you, and your time together is private. Here is exactly what we collect and why. [legal entity name] is responsible for this data.

Your calls are not recorded

Your video and voice go directly between your two computers whenever your networks allow it. When they can't connect directly, the call passes through a relay run by Cloudflare. Either way it is encrypted end to end between your browsers, and we never record, store, see or hear it.

What we keep

  • Your email address, to sign you in and to write to you about your plan.
  • Your plan and payments: status, dates, amounts and currency. Card details go to Razorpay, not to us.
  • Connected browsers: a record of each browser you've signed in to Couch with, so you can disconnect it.
  • How Couch is used: when parties start and end, how long they last, and how much of a call went through the relay. We use this to keep Couch working and affordable. It never includes what you watch together, what you say, or your messages.

What passes through but isn't kept

To keep your show in sync, our server sees the address of the page you're watching, the playback position, your chat messages and reactions, and the name you chose for the party. These live only in memory while the party exists and are gone within hours after it ends. Your partner doesn't need an account, and we don't store anything about them.

Cookies

One cookie keeps you signed in on this website. No advertising cookies, and no selling or sharing your data with advertisers.

Who helps us run Couch

Razorpay (payments), Cloudflare (call relay), Fly.io (sync server), Vercel (this website), Neon (database) and our email provider (sign-in emails). They only get what they need to do that job.

Your choices

You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to delete your account at any time: write to hello@kindehaus.com. We keep payment records for as long as tax law requires.
